Mentored Hunting Initiative Update & New Parent-Child Hunt Opportunity
The 2026-2027 SOTW Mentored Hunting Initiative season will offer five hunts across the state, including one parent-child hunt! Details about each opportunity can be found in the graphic below.
Participant registration for all hunts will open August 1, 2026 at 10 a.m. at stewardsofthewild.org/events. If you wish to participate as a hunter, please register for your preferred hunt at that time. Spots are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis, and TPWF staff will verify eligibility of each registrant.
Hunter eligibility requirements vary per hunt:
- Oct. 2-4 Parent-Child Hunt: Parent must be an experienced hunter and active SOTW member; child must be at least 10 years old and have had at least one hunting experience.
- Nov. 13-15 Adult Co-Ed Hunt: Must be new/novice hunter and active SOTW member.
- Dec. 11-13 Adult Women-Only Hunt: Must be new/novice hunter and active SOTW member.
- Feb. 5-7 Adult Co-Ed Hunt: Must be new/novice hunter and active SOTW member.
- April 9-11 Adult Co-Ed Hunt: Must be new/novice turkey hunter, have had 2+ hunting experiences targeting other species, and an active SOTW member.

The Annual All-Stewards Dove Hunt is Stewards of the Wild's signature outdoor experience and most anticipated event of the year. This beloved tradition brings Stewards from across the state together for a weekend celebrating conservation, camaraderie, and Texas’ great outdoors. Each event ticket includes two dove hunts, lodging for one-night, delicious meals including a wild game dinner prepared by renowned Texas Chef Jesse Griffiths, unlimited sporting clays, live music, and much more. Are you a new or novice dove hunter? No problem! We will pair you with a mentor to guide you through the weekend. |

Stewards Explore Importance of Riparian Areas on South Llano River Trip
In late May, Stewards traveled to the edge of the Texas Hill Country for a paddle down the South Llano River and a visit to Native American Seed in Junction. In preparation for the 8-mile paddle, attendees learned about the importance of riparian areas, native species in and around the river, and the history and geography of the region from conservation experts. The heavy spring rains made for healthy river flows and beautiful Hill Country views!

To top off the weekend, Stewards received an exclusive tour of the Native American Seed farm exploring the work it takes to plant, harvest, and sell native Texas wildflower and grass seeds. Special thank you to the farm's founder, Bill Nieman, for hosting the group and sharing his knowledge.

San Antonio Chapter Expands Horizons at Texas Game Fair
The San Antonio Chapter recently participated in the Texas Game Fair at Joshua Creek Ranch hosted by the San Antonio Rodeo's Wildlife and Natural Resource Committee. A weekend of outdoor festivities and connection, chapter leaders and members engaged new audiences and served specialty wild game pizzas courtesy of the chapter's newest co-chair, Lenny Valerio. |
