Join us for a special visit to the incredible Selah, Bamberger Ranch Preserve near Johnson City on Friday, September 12 at 12:30 p.m. The 5,500 acre property in Blanco County has been restored to its original habitat, with a mission to teach ethical land stewardship by example and outreach! Click here to learn more about the preserve.

*Please note this event is open to families. Keep in mind the visit includes a 4-hour tour. The preserve recommends children 8+ considering the length of the tour. Registration for children 13 and under is free; registration for children 14+ is $30.

Agenda:

  • 12:30-1 p.m. Arrivals
  • 1 p.m. Orientation
  • 2-6 p.m. Preserve tour
  • 6 p.m. Networking/happy hour
  • 7 p.m. Departure

Transportation:

There is plenty of parking for everyone. For the tour, we will use the preserve's ranch transportation, "The Bluebonnet". It is an open air, covered trailer with metal and wooden seats. Participants are welcome to bring water, snacks, and a blanket/cushion to sit on.

Tour:

Part of the Bamberger vision is to showcase what private landowners can do. The tour will focus on Mr. Bamberger's story and his vision from the beginning as a advocate for land stewardship and conservation. You will learn about how landscape cover impacts water and geology systems, land fragmentation, impacts of native and non-native species, and much more. The tour includes a guided nature walk (1/2 mile), viewing of the preserve's Scimitar-Horned Oryx herd, and a stop at the world's first and largest Chiroptorium (artificial bat cave) designed to house 1 million Mexican free-tailed bats!

Looking to make a weekend out of this trip? Join us for a SCC Game Species visit to the Kerr WMA near Hunt on Saturday, June 13 at 9 a.m. Kerr WMA is about 2-hours West of Selah, Bamberger Ranch Preserve. Fredericksburg and Kerrville are between the two locations, with multiple lodging options.
