About our Mentored Hunting & Fishing Program

Stewards of the Wild members who are first time or novice hunters or anglers have the opportunity to participate in mentored hunts and fishing trips throughout the year. These trips are unforgettable experiences where novice hunters and anglers will learn how to harvest, process, and cook wild game while supporting wildlife conservation and celebrating our outdoor heritage. Become a Stewards of the Wild member and join us in the field this season! Thank you to our Mentored Hunting Initiative Presenting Sponsor SITKA Gear. With SITKA's support, we are able to offer low-cost hunts for new and novice hunters. 

Mentored Hunting

Registration for the 2026-2027 season is full. Registration for the 2027-2028 season will open in August 2027 on a first-come, first served- basis. TPWF staff reviewed the eligibility of all registrants and will confirm their participation on the hunt. This season’s hunt descriptions and registration can be found using the links below.

• Oct. 2-4 Parent/Child Big Game Hunt: Zavala County
• Nov. 13-15 Mentored Co-Ed Big Game Hunt: Bosque County
• Dec. 11-13 Mentored Ladies-Only Big Game Hunt: Kerr County
• Feb. 5-7 Mentored Co-Ed Big Game Hunt: Matagorda County
• April 9-11 Mentored Co-Ed Turkey Hunt: Bosque County

Important Hunt Details:

• The Oct. 2-4 parent-child hunt is only available to experienced adult hunters with a child 10 years or older who has at least two hunting experiences.
• The April 9-11 turkey hunt is a higher-level hunt and appropriate for individuals who have some hunting experience.
• To participate, you must be an active SOTW member, complete a hunter education course, and obtain a valid Texas hunting license prior to the hunt.
