Mentored Ladies-Only Big Game Hunt

Who is this hunt for? Active SOTW members (ladies only) who are new or novice hunters. All participants must complete hunter education and obtain a valid Texas hunting license prior to the hunt.
What is included? Lodging is provided. Includes three rifle, blind-based (ground or elevated) hunts throughout the weekend. Experts will join us to provide conservation, habitat, wildlife, and hunting education, including shooting practice at the range, animal tracking practice, and butchering demonstrations. All meals will be provided by an expert game chef.
Target Species: White-tailed doe and potential exotics
When: 12/11/26 @ 12 p.m. - 12/13/26 @ 11 a.m.
Where: Beautiful Edwards Plateau ranch in Kerr County (ranch location disclosed to registrants before hunt date)
When your registration is confirmed, TPWF staff will provide you with further hunt details, a gear list, and various forms/tasks to complete ahead of the hunt.

Cancellation Policy: Because this hunt is truly one of a kind and highly sought after, we kindly ask that you fully commit to your attendance. We understand illness and emergencies are out of your control, so if you must cancel please let us know ASAP. If case of cancellation, our refund policy is: full refund if cancellation is 3-4 weeks in advance; 50% refund if cancellation is 1-2 weeks in advance; no refund if cancellation is within 1 week of the event.
About the SOTW Mentored Hunting Initiative
There is a growing need to develop new hunters in the state of Texas. The Stewards of the Wild are well positioned to engage individuals age 21-45 and transition them into new hunters. Thank you to our SOTW Mentored Hunting Initiative Presenting Sponsor, SITKA Gear, for making these hunts possible.
The Stewards of the Wild Mentored Hunting Initiative provides novice young adult hunters a safe and inclusive environment in which to learn about habitat and species conservation, ethical hunting/fishing laws and practices, land and water access, and the important connections between these issues. Mentored experiences feature a variety of hunting styles including dove, duck, quail, and big game hunts over diverse Texas landscapes on mostly private land. The Mentored Hunting Initiative equips participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to continue hunting in Texas, ultimately growing the number of ethical hunters in the state and increasing awareness about the interdependence between hunting and conservation.
According to 2024 data from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the number of paid hunting license holders in Texas is just over 1.1 million people—that is, 3.6% of our state’s population. By comparison, the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) reported that in 2022, 4.4% of the U.S. population ages six and up went hunting at least once. The percentage of Americans that hunt is the smallest it has ever been. OIA also reported that in 2022 most hunting in the U.S. occurred on private land, with 44% exclusively on private land and 41% on a combination of private and public land. As a result, a growing number of Texans are reaching young adulthood with a limited understanding of our state’s conservation issues and scant exposure to the outdoors, hunting, and fishing. Stewards of the Wild seeks to reverse this trend in Texas through the Mentored Hunting Initiative.
