Join us for a special visit hosted by the SCC Native Prairie Subcommittee to the Nature Conservancy's Clymer Meadow Preserve just northeast of Dallas on Saturday, October 4 at 9:30 a.m. Clymer Meadow Preserve contains some of the largest and most diverse remnants of the Blackland Prairie—the Texas version of the tallgrass prairie that once stretched from near the Texas coast to southern Manitoba. This rare, 1,475-acre “island” of natural history is part of a larger conservation area that includes land owned by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and other private owners. As an excellent example of remnant prairie, the preserve is a key site for research and educational activities. The Native Prairies Association of Texas (NPAT) assists in managing the conservation easement at Clymer Meadow.

Tour:

We will be joined by the TNC North Texas Preserve Manager, Brandon Belcher, and Rachel Seets, the NPAT North Texas Conservation Manager, who will take us on a easy hiking tour of remnant prairie and highlight areas of restoration work of varied age and condition.

It is recommended that visitors check weather forecasts and dress for the potential of wet and / or muddy conditions. Boots and long pants are suggested, as is a personal water bottle and any snacks. We will have insect repellent and sunscreen available if necessary.

The prairie walk has potential hazards common to wild areas such as uneven terrain, thorns, biting / stinging insects, poison ivy, etc.  If visitors have severe allergies to anything, please share this info so that we can best mitigate risks.
